Winged Jewels
We went to London! Actually, we went two weeks ago, but as you can see, I haven't blogged for a while. This is mostly because I have been working out during the kids' computer time, so haven't figured out when to blog since that's when I used to do it. Anyway, we went to London.
Justin's highlight was taking buses and trains to get there. We ended up going on a crazy circuitous train route that I unwittingly agreed to so that Justin could ride a particular train he wanted to ride. It took longer than I thought it would, so we didn't have a ton of time afterwards, because we had to meet Eric back in Oxford around 3. Next time we go, we'll stay for a longer day.
Here is the iconic Tube sign. Justin informs me this is called a roundel.
Here we are on the train. Rebecca and I look happier than we actually were to be on this train. Justin was excited enough for all of us :)
After our trains we went to the Natural History Museum. It is famous so you might recognize it from a movie or two. I don't know what movies, so don't ask me, but people told me there are a lot of movies that have been filmed here.
At the museum, they had a temporary butterfly exhibit. I hesitated to buy tickets because sometimes those things aren't really worth it, but Becca really wanted to go, and I figured she had put up with enough trains so far that we should do something she was excited about. So we went. She really wanted to have a butterfly land on her, and I told her again and again that you can't count on it, and that the experience would be fun no matter what. Within seconds, a butterfly landed on Justin. Oh, great, I thought. Now she's going to be really sad. Well, lucky for us, a butterfly landed on her and perched there like a butterfly bracelet for five minutes. She was very happy. Then another one landed on Justin, like a necklace. And it laid an egg (on him)! This was one of the best butterfly exhibits I've ever seen. They were so beautiful!
I wish this picture of the chrysalises turned out better. They were so beautiful, all hanging in a row. Hard for anything manmade to top the beauty of nature, in my opinion.
And here is Rebecca with her arm decoration.
Here's a close up view. She was so careful, and sat on that bench without moving. Justin took this photo, so he wants me to give him proper credit.
More butterflies. They were all over the place. That second picture is a plate of fruit covered in butterflies.
And the butterfly necklace. He said it tickled his chin.
Can you see the egg?
I had a butterfly on my butt most of the time we were in the exhibit, but I didn't take a picture of that...

What fun ! I’m glad the butterflies did not leave any of you out.
ReplyDeleteYes, I was glad, too! (Well, I could have done without the one on my butt...)
