Welcome to Wales (Croeso i Cymru)
When my mom was here we took a day trip to Wales for the first time. I fell in love with it so we've been back twice since then, but I still haven't posted from our first trip. The thing I noticed most when we crossed the border (other than all the signs in a funny language...) was the almost immediate change in topography. I imagine this differs depending on where you cross, but the way we drove in the first time it felt like immediately across the border the mountains got mountain-y.
We first went to Brecon Beacons National Park for a hike and a picnic. We ate the picnic in the car because it was COLD! You can see snow on the mountains in some of the pictures. We went on a four mile hike up to the top of an iron age hill fort through countryside dotted with gorse bushes and shimmering lakes. (Also, I think the landscape looked like a natural golf course in parts...) It was so beautiful, and the kids loved imagining life when the hill fort was a fort. It sleeted on us a few times, and rained pretty hard for a bit, but we also had patches of sun. We definitely want to go back to Brecon Beacons to explore more!

Beautiful!! I love the moody wide views and hillsides.
ReplyDeleteWe hope to visit Wales (and you) before too long...
It is really beautiful! It's pretty here in the Cotswolds, too, but Wales feels more rugged and mountain-y (I mean, it's all relative, it's not like the Sierras or anything...:))
