Skiing in (the Original) Sierra Nevada

Image
Growing up in California, for me "skiing in the Sierra Nevada" meant Tahoe.  Growing up in Spain, for Eric "skiing in the Sierra Nevada" meant southern Spain and views of the Mediterranean from the peak. I'm quite sure that Tahoe has its charms (the lake, for one...) but I have to say, the original Sierra Nevada mountains are pretty great.  Eric came here to ski with his family in the '90's and loved it, so we decided this would be a good place for the kids' first ski experience. Eric was hoping for good snow and warm weather, so that the kids could have good skiing without being too cold. He must have been good the last few months, because he certainly got exactly what he hoped for. Both yesterday and today it's been perfectly blue and sunny and warm (well, relatively warm--probably in the 50s down where I am and the 40s up on the peak). And just a week before we got here a big storm dumped feet of snow (in perfect timing for our arrival.)

Spain

We are in Spain right now. We flew in on Monday and leave on Saturday. We flew into Madrid, then drove to the Sierra Nevada so that Eric could take the kids skiing. We are staying in an apartment hotel in a little pueblo at the base of the mountains and I am finally blogging because, well, Eric took the kids skiing and so I have time! So far, according to Eric, the kids have taken really quickly to skiing and are both doing well. I told him to take pictures, so if he obliges I will post some later. In the meanwhile, I am in the apartment in Aguas Blancas. There are mountains out the window and the sky is so blue. Sometimes, living in the UK, I forget the sky is actually blue! (I do actually love rainy weather, to be honest, but it is nice to see the sun for a few days.) I have mostly been trying to catch up on planning for the kids home ed activities. But I also managed to go for a nice walk in the neighborhood around our hotel, and saw lots of pretty views of ruins and mountains
