Milk Delivery

Every Thursday, we get our dairy products delivered from a local dairy. It took several months to find a good dairy source. There's another local dairy farm that delivers but they never responded to my inquiries, so we finally gave up. Then we heard about this dairy that delivers to us now, and when they responded to my email I was so excited! (You wouldn't think it would be so hard to get someone to take your money, but this has happened to us quite a few times here--we want to start a service and are happy to pay and no one responds.)

Anyway, the milk is cream top, fresh from that morning, and comes in glass bottles. It's delivered by a lovely man who called to make sure everything was okay and who leaves it at about 5:30 in the morning. In Boston, we would have been awake to greet him, but here the kids sleep later, so we wake up in the morning to our delivery waiting outside our door. They just leave an invoice every month and we call in the payment. I couldn't believe they trusted us to leave two deliveries before they requested payment. Sort of refreshing. (And the butter and milk and yogurt and cream are all SO good!)

Not quite as good as having my own cow, but it will have to do for now...

  1. That's great that you get fresh milk and good dairy products delivered. One (of many) of my favorite things about being in the villages in the Balkans is getting fresh dairy, meats, and so many home made foods. I probably told you at one place they serves us huge mugs of what they called 'milk' but what clearly was very liquidy yogurt. im not a milk drinker but i really loved this fresh tart yogurt-milk.
as for home delivery, i clearly remember the guy who delivered our milk when i was a kid. We had a milk box on the back porch. in addition to leaving milk he also would leave big metal tins of pretzels and chocolate chip cookies. (-:
(i like how where you are they call sour cream 'soured' cream).

    1. Yes, Kendra emailed me about the same delivery guy! Funny what kids remember...Yogurt is even more traditional thank milk, I think, because it lasts longer without refrigeration. Sounds yummy!
