Backyard Blossoms

Spring has been around for awhile now. Last week we had a stretch of beautiful sunny days. Everyone assures us that was the totality of British summer. So we enjoyed it while it lasted.

All the wildflowers are blooming everywhere in the village. They are so pretty, purples, whites, and yellows. All our trees are in bloom, and the hedgerows are bushy and full. (This makes driving on the narrow "two-way" streets here somewhat hazardous as you can't see anything around turns because of the hedgerows in full bloom...)

We've been outside as much as possible. We climbed trees, and read outside. We planted pansies, and read outside. We picked bouquets of wildflowers. Is anything prettier than a wildflower bouquet picked by a child? If so, I haven't seen it! We mowed the lawn and then mowed it again. (I guess we had to move to England for the full American suburban experience.) And we hung about fifty loads of laundry out to dry.

This week everything is still blooming beautifully, but it's cloudy and on-and-off rainy, so we're glad we got out as much as possible during our English summer :)

  2. Yay, it worked!
I was saying that I love that you are able to comfortably be outside more, and have much beauty around to enjoy and explore. And how I like being out in all sorts of weather if dresses appropriately, but especially like when I can be outside without layers and shoes. Being barefoot on the earth is the best!
Yesterday I also tried asking if you need to watch out for Amy bothersome bugs or snakes over there...

    1. Oh, glad it worked finally! Weird...Yes, in Boston people always say there is no such things as bad weather, just insufficient clothing. Only one poisonous snake here, the adder, but very shy and so not really something to watch out for. They have ticks, but ppl in the village assure me they are nothing like the problem they are in America. I'm so paranoid about them from living in the Northeast, but here they are common on dogs but much less so on people. We get lots of flies and stuff inside when we have all our windows open (because no one here has screens) but so far haven't seen any mosquitoes, which really surprises me given the stream in our yard. (But I'm not complaining!!!)
